As a successful adult, do you think mentoring an at-risk youth would be helpful in enhancing a child‘s self-esteem and hope for the future? And do we do it enough?
Thank you for responding and becoming a member David. I absolutely agree with you. I guess the question is how do we get involved as positive role models, not just to our own children, but to children who may not have appropriate caregivers?
Programs such as Big Brother, Big Sister, and 100 Black Men and the men and women involved in said programs are essential in enhancing our youths self-esteem and hope for the future. The unfortunate reality for most of our youth is that there are not many positive role models that they can look up to, so they tend to navigate towards what is most familiar for them. This is not always a good thing. We have a responsibility to OUR community to be the role models for our youth and help them be the best versions of themselves.
